"If So"
Cybil is working on a college project for one of her classes. She and Dawn are waiting in the student center for their group members.
Cybil: Where the hell are they?
Dawn: If you want to bet a lunch, I bet everyone but Sam will be here in 20 minutes. Sam will text us to say he’s sick or got stuck in traffic.
Cybil: I’m not taking you up on that! You’re right.
Dawn: Did the professor ever say if there were evaluations for the group?
Cybil: Yep. And the prof will know that, except for you “everybody’s taking what they can” from this. This is way too much work for two people.
Dawn: I’m sure everyone else will give the other’s 5-star reviews. So frustrating.
Cybil: Knowing you, this’ll be an A+ so I know why they aren’t showing.
Dawn: “But they can’t decide” that and then get an A scot-free.
Cybil: “They do what they want” because there are no consequences to something like this. We are in a hyperpolitical situation. To go snitching on them won’t help.
Dawn: How is this snitching? You’re saying that “to cause any kind” of disruption will be a downfall for us, who are working? None of this “feeling is alright.”
Cybil: Maybe we should go do something else for a little bit.
Dawn: (snapping) “Don’t be talking maybe!” We have so much work to do. You can leave too. I’ll do it all.
Cybil: “Your mama’s” gonna do all the work.
Dawn: This isn’t time for jokes!
Cybil: It might be time to start “flying high as a kite.” CJ has some, lets go over there.
Dawn: “You’re just like” the rest of them.
Cybil: Rude. After this project there’s going to be “the next one” and you’re getting way too bent out of shape about this.
Dawn: We’ll never graduate, then become hobos, and then “we’ll be walking lonely” hand in hand because there won’t be anyone, but each other.
Cybil: I mean my plan was to get my part done and go home “tonight.” No one is going to become a hobo because of one project that gets a B instead.
Cybil starts to pack up.
Cybil: I’m going over to CJs. You coming?
Dawn: I’d rather be “lonely tonight.”
