"Yesterday"
This post is part of a series: Part I, “Foundations,” Part II, "Slow," Part III, "The Great Divide," Part IV, "Chasing Pirates."
Bunny and Fiya are stupid drunk which means there's a lot of slurring and giggles. They are in the kitchen with teen magazines from the late 90s spread out on the table.
Bunny: Why do you still have these?
Fiya: They meant a lot to me and I never got around to throwing them out.
Bunny: Josh Harnett is still soooooooooooooooooo cute.
Bunny and Fiya are set off into a fit of laughter.
Fiya: Oh my God. what happened to him and that guy from A Walk to Remember.
Bunny: Oh yeah. Yeah. What's his name. Shane…
Fiya: (cuts Bunny off) WEST!
Bunny: Yeah. We never cheersed! "Here's to my future!"
Fiya: "Here's to my yesterday."
Bunny & Fiya: "Here's to change."
They clumsily clink their glasses, spilling and chugging what's left.
Fiya: Ready for some more?
Bunny: I shouldn't. But yes.
Fiya pours more.
Bunny: Oh what you said… Um… "Oh, here's to my yesterday" I just want to say.
Bunny pauses trying to remember her train of thought.
Fiya: What do you want to say?
Bunny: Right. "No tomorrow without a yesterday."
Fiya: Such a philosopher.
Fiya raises her glass.
Fiya: "Here's to my future."
Bunny: "Goodbye to yesterday."
Fiya: I'm so glad we're roommates.
Bunny: Yeah.
Fiya: No seriously. Listen. "All these years I've been searching" for true friends and "for who I'm supposed to be" and I think you and I are finally figuring all of that out.
Bunny: Before today, it was just "all this time I've been wasting." Wasting it on stupid relationships and pining and bad situations. And I used to think you were too straight and narrow, but you aren't you just get more done than anyone I know. Oh my God I get it. We were supposed to be roomies. "'Cause I was right in front of me" and I didn’t get it until now.
Fiya: Glad I could help. You scared me when you first moved in.
Bunny: "Oh" why? I'm not scary!
Fiya: You were so much cooler and you went against a lot of my notions on being a person. It’s like "a crooked old tradition." Some traditions suck.
Bunny: I can be annoying, especially to parents. I can be a nerd too! Watch.
Bunny does a simple magic trick with a coin.
Bunny: I'm "a masterful magician."
Fiya: No! Why am I just seeing this?
Bunny: Only four people in my adult life know I know magic. If more people knew than there'd be trouble.
Fiya: What kind of trouble?
Bunny: Listen. "In all this trouble I've met" some weirdos and I can't hang out with other magicians. And I can't tell anyone what happened because there were lawyers. Shhhhhhhhhhhh!
Fiya: (slurs) Are you okay?
Bunny: Yah. I'm fine. "I haven't got one single regret, no." But guess what?
Bunny raises her glass and Fiya follows.
Bunny: "Here's to my future."
Fiya: "Here's to my yesterday."
Bunny & Fiya: "Here's to change!"
