"Better Now"

Man: “You probably think that you are better now” than when we were together. That day you shoved me back and told me to get out of our apartment. You told me you were going to be “better now” that you were done with us. I’m guessing “you only say that ‘cause I’m not around” and feel that you’re stronger without me.

Girl, “you know I never meant to let you down.” We were having a rough patch. You’d always repeat that I “let you down.” Girl, you know I “woulda gave you anything,” I “woulda gave you everything.” I DID give you everything. Just because you didn’t think it was enough or right, doesn’t mean I didn’t help you…help us.

“You know I say that I am better now,” but people don’t know that “I only say it cause you’re not around.” It’s always a surprise with you. I am better now that I know why you walked out. You better know “I never meant to let you down” because I “woulda gave you anything / would gave you everything.”

Don’t act like some of this wasn’t your fault too. “I seen you with your other dude” and “he seemed like he was pretty cool”. You should have broken up with me first, before the two of you kicked it together in front of all of our friends.

Don’t worry about me though. “I was so broken over you,” and it hurt. I punched that wall in the living room that you painted black last Thanksgiving. At times it seems like too much, but “life it goes on, what can you do?”

I’ll get you back; that’s what I’ll do. “I just wonder what it’s gonna take.”
