"Try Again"

"Try Again"

Mary is remote working in her living room. Her cell starts ringing and at first she ignores it. On the second attempt she answers.

Mary: Hi…Nothing…working like usual. I mean it is a Tuesday…No, how many times do I need to tell you, "I'm into you." I don't need to convince you. I was pretty convinced until this call that "you into me" too…This isn't a phone conversation. If you want to actually talk then you need to come around…See you then.

She puts the phone down.

Mary: I'm pretty sure this is a situationship, "but I can't let it go so easily." I've been working hard at this one. The temptation is too high but I'm not going to end it yet… "not 'til I see what this could be." I want to see it out until it's squeezed of everything. That decision "could be eternity or” made in “just a week."  I'm fine with anything at the point. Everything else hasn't worked so it's time I try something different. "But, yo, our chemistry is off the chain" which I know, I KNOW is not helping and I'm not making the right decisions. It does feel good most of the time like "it's perfect now, but will it change?"

Mary gets back to work. There's a modest light change to show some time has passed. There's a knock on the door. Mary goes to the door to answer.

Mary (through the door): "This ain't a yes" but "this ain't a no" either. You have to show me you want me. "Just do your thing" and you'll be good. Well at least if you do you and I do me then "we'll see how we go" together. I want you to know one thing before you come in tonight. "If at first you don't succeed" that's not the end of it. "Dust yourself off and try again…you can dust yourself and try again" and I'll "try again" too.

She opens the door. Lights out.
