“I’m Not Over”
Mariah, Mary, and Meg, sisters and best friends, have been shopping all day. They’re taking a breather outside a local coffee shop.
Mariah: “What a waste of time.”
Mary: The one thing you wanted to buy we couldn’t find this trip.
Meg: We could try that one store over off of fifth.
Mariah: “The thought crossed my mind.”
Mary: I have to take a break if we’re going do more of this!
Meg: You’re the oldest stereotype to a tee.
Mary: Because I want to take a break and sit down for a second?
Meg: No, because you’re old! “I never missed a beat” when it comes to shopping.
Mariah: It’s because you have a shopping addiction.
Meg: I don’t! It’s just fun.
Mary: We’re all so different for being sisters.
Mariah: Defintely “can’t explain” that one.
Meg: I think there are similar differences between “the who or what” we are. That doesn’t mean anything.
Mary: I’m “trying to believe” in that. It seems that there’s something missing from our ultimate connection.
Meg: “What would you do” about that?
Mariah: I don’t think we should make blanket statements when there’s no proof. How come you’re questioning this?
Mary: I mean I’ve been thinking about this for a while. There’s a lot about our parents’ histories we don’t know and like I have this vague recollection that there was someone else in our lives Mariah before Meg.
Mariah: “What would you do” if you found something like that out?
Mary: I wouldn’t tell you anything unless you really wanted to know.
Meg: “Do you know” that more babies are born to unmarried mothers than ever before. What if that was your life.
Mary: “I once had a grip on everything.”
Mariah: We don’t know this for certain.
Mary: I do.
Meg: What? How did you find out?
Mary: Our DNA test kits.
Meg: The results came back?!
Mariah: Why didn’t you tell us?
Mary: Because Mariah, you and I don’t match Meg. Meg is definitely related to both our parents.
Mariah: They were so warm about us doing it last Christmas. If mom knows, why wouldn’t she try to dissuade us?
Meg: This doesn’t make sense. You’re definitely my sisters.
Mariah: Well yeah, of course. This doesn’t change that.
Mary: No, it doesn’t it.
Mariah: Are you going to say anything to our parents. I’ll do this with you.
Mary: I don’t think I can yet. If I do, I’ll definitely let you know. For now “it feels better to let it go.”
