Teenage Lady: Want to go to the movies with me Friday?

Teenage Guy: (Looking around) Who me?

Teenage Lady: Yeah, you. I’ve had a crush on you since middle school.

Teenage Guy: I have to ask my parents. Wait, no, “mama told me what I should know.”

Teenage Lady: Don’t say yes to a girl asking you out?

Teenage Guy: Yeah, but also that “too much candy gonna rot your soul.”

Teenage Lady: What?

Teenage Guy: You’re really smart and pretty. “If she loves you, let her go, ‘cause love only gets you down.”

Teenage Lady: I’m not talking about love! It’s only a movie!! Janet told me you were weird. Pretend I didn’t even ask.     

Teenage Lady runs out.

Teenage Guy: I don’t think that’s how that was supposed to go. Why didn’t I say yes? I actually like her.     

Pause, thinking.

Teenage Guy: This makes me curious about my mom's advice. I don't really do anything myself, "never stood on my own two feet" and "now I"m blue as I can be." Although, she's right about one thing! "love couldn't get me down."
