"Figure It Out"
College-aged Jack and Ella are at a frat party. Jack is much more flirty and keeps trying to get close to Ella who continues to keep her distance throughout the conversation.
Jack: Ella, why won’t you come back to my place after this?
Ella: Jack. You. Know. The. Answer.
Jack: Girl, “I’m happy you like to play games,” but I really don’t know.
Ella: I’m with him now.
Jack: Yeah I know you are. We were supposed to be together though.
Ella: “Why did you run away?”
Jack: Not this question again. I don’t have an answer for you.
Ella: We could have been together. Then you really messed up.
Jack: “We could spend some time together” now. “What he [has] he’ll never know.”
Ella: You don’t get it. He does know.
Jack: “Your boyfriend gives you no respect.” Why are you at this party alone?
Ella: He has a final tomorrow. I need to go find my friends. I shouldn’t have come out here with you. It doesn’t change.
Jack: “I can see you’re getting it.” You want me.
Ella: Jack. Stop. You sound delusional.
Jack: No. “Let’s figure it out. Let’s go!”
Ella: “I’m happy you’re so impulsive” because “it means that you’re passionate,” but this isn’t going to go anywhere. You had your chance and you left me when I actually asked for your help and I didn’t hear from you for weeks.
Jack: I regret that every day. I was so drunk and overwhelmed by my love for you. I had no idea what to say.
Ella: I don’t know. You should have been there for me. I don’t ask for much and he was and is there for me when I need him.
Jack: (sarcastically) “I’m happy you’re moving so fast, but will it ever last?”
Ella: Glad you’re taking all of this so well. I am happy. He and I are happy.
Ella’s boyfriend comes into the room looking for her and approaches the two.
Jack: (Whispering) “I know you want to break free from this monotony.” I can do that for you.
Ella’s Boyfriend: Hey Ella. (He puts an arm around her and kisses the top of her head.) Jesse told me you were over here.
Ella: I’m glad you got to swing by! I thought you had to study tonight?
Ella’s Boyfriend: The final is tomorrow in the evening and I wanted to hang out with you before the break.
Ella: Ready to head back and find the gang?
Jack: You don’t want to stay out here with me?
Ella: (rolls her eyes) Come on. We can pick up food on the way home.
She leads her boyfriend out of the area.
Ella’s Boyfriend: (as they’re leaving) “I’m happy you’re coming with me.”
Ella: Who else would I go with? We’ve talked about Jack’s issues before.
Ella’s Boyfriend: I know. The “choice [has] gotta be” for yourself and not because he and I are at your heels all of the time.
Ella: I know. Thank you for that.
