"Do You Realize??"
Marco is on a subway or train car. He’s excited and engaging with the other passengers. All see him as eccentric, but based on what happened to him prior and that led him on this train he’s really just excited to be alive. Marco paces on the car and uses extravagant gestures.
Marco: Very few people will know the relief that I feel now.
(Pointing to an older woman) Madam, “do you realize that you have the most beautiful face?”
(Moving forward) I beat it. Yes. I beat the diagnosis. Simple as that! Well not actually simple at all, when I think about it, but looking back it all feels so simple now.
(Leaning on the back of a gentlemen’s chair . Gentleman makes a sound of annoyance) Sir, “do you realize we’re floating in space?”
(Spinning away from the chair) Everything I do feels renewed! People don’t “realize that happiness makes you cry.” Truly. In those moments of pure happiness. Like when you watch those specifically curated ads or Youtube commercials that are meant to make sure you have tears in your eyes or that your heart feels three sizes larger. Like the pure happiness you feel when you fight the diagnosis that had you at 3 months, 2 months ago.
The only part that can ever really get us down is that “everyone you know someday will die.” That’s the saddest truth. Well no worse than your own demise, but after that happens what do we actually feel?
Older Woman: Someone shut him up!
Marco: I wish I knew how to shut up! Wonderful woman, “instead of saying all of your goodbyes” now, “let them know.”
Older Woman: Know what?
Marco: That you love them. That you despise them and never want to see their ugly snouts again! Mostly though, remind them that “you realize that life goes fast” and “it’s hard to make the good things last.”
Older Woman: When you’re my age you’ll realize how futile any of that is and you’re lucky if you can get a grandkid to talk to you for more than 20 seconds before they start playing on those stupid screens. The eyesight of the young is going to be worse than any generation has seen.
Marco: I don’t disagree with you there! We all need to be reminded that there is breath on our lips, fresh air outside, and love to be shared. The biggest secret of all is that “the sun doesn’t go down. It’s just an illusion caused by the world spinning round.” That’s all, beautiful lady, the world truly is.
