"Almost Everything"
This is a continuation of the scene, “The Wolf.” She and Him are both still chatting about whether or not they’re going to end up together. They are both more tense then when they first met up.
Him: (standing up) You can’t keep giving me all these different signals. It’s not fair.
She: Sit down.
Him: I won’t. It’s time for me to go.
She: I “said sit down with me before you go.” Let’s at least finish the coffees. You won’t have to worry about me calling or texting you anymore. We can just part ways amicably.
Him: “That’s the wrong thing I know.”
She: What would be the right thing?
Him: It shouldn’t be that our choices are either we go out or we never see one another again. If I walk away and “I don’t know when I will see you again” it doesn’t feel right.
She: But right now we’re just always annoyed at one another.
Him: Without the thought of you “it gets so lonely.”
She: The thought of me is what makes you feel not alone? So like you don’t even actually want to be with me. That’s fine. You can keep it to your thoughts then. “See you’d be foolish if you stayed here now.”
Him: No. That’s not what I meant. “Maybe if you leave”... If we leave… “we could work it out.”
She: I didn’t move to this city for love. I moved here for college. “I know the city only breaks you down” because it's a dog eat dog world out there. Don’t take it out on me.
Him: Don’t leave without us figuring this out.
She: Why not, it’s best if “it gets you lonely.” You said it.
She starts to pack up her things.
Him: Where does this leave us?
She: “You miss the feeling” of me when I’m both here and not here. That’s where it leave you. Once I “step outside” it is all up to you. Hopefully “your mind comes all untied” and you can make a decision.
Him: What are you going to do?
She: Does it matter? Call me when “you open up your eyes and you don’t feel lonely.”
Him: Harsh.
She: “See, it feels bad now, but it’s gonna get better someday.”
