"Thunder"
Brazen (8) rushes into the house. He throws his backpack on the ground, it slides. He then starts to run to his room, but is stopped by his older sister, Solitude (15).
Solitude: You can’t do that!
Brazen: You’re not the boss of me. Mom and Dad aren’t here.
Solitude: They’ll be back. Dad is getting off work and Mom had to get more chicken for dinner.
Brazen: Whatever. I’m going to my room.
Solitude: What about your homework? You have to do it.
Brazen: Why? The “kids were laughing in my classes” at me.
Solitude: Why?
Brazen: They’re brats. They think they run everything. I made one thing.
Solitude: What happened “while” you were at school?
Brazen: Like I normally do, “I was scheming for the masses.”
Solitude: So you weren’t paying attention.
Brazen: I missed the question that the teacher asked me. I got in trouble. “‘Who do you think you are?’” asked Jenny. All the kids started laughing. Even the teacher started laughing.
Solitude: What did you do?
Brazen: Nothing. I sat there. I’m “dreaming ‘bout being a big star” and there’s nothing anyone can say to me.
Solitude: That’s good! Let them say whatever. They could “say you’re basic” or that “you’re easy.” It’s not true. You have to be better than all of them. But you’re also 8 so that’s hard. And there’s other things they could make fun of you for like “you’re always riding in the back seat.”
Brazen: I’m so mad.
Solitude: Try not to show anyone. So in the future you can be “smiling from the stage while” everyone is “clapping in the nose bleeds.” You’ll do better than everyone.
Brazen: You promise?
Solitude: Yes.
