"Hero"
Carrie Jefferson is sitting at the end of a conference table. She's with three other colleagues, Naomi, Jesse, and Robert who are arguing about what they're going to do with a disgruntled customer. Carrie is mostly talking to herself, as if it's an internal dialogue, while her colleagues continue to silently talk during these times.
Naomi: No, we cannot give them everything they are asking for.
Robert: It's the only way to get the deal done.
Naomi: So you don't care if it's bad for our business? We can get other deals done.
Jesse: This is a hundred-million-dollar deal. That's not nothing for us. If we find a way to do this, our lives will be changed forever.
Naomi: I know we have to come up with something. That's not lost on me. Carrie, what have you got from your research?
Carrie: (to the group) Well based on what they're asking for and the cost of people we'll have to put on this project for no less than 10 months, we're looking at….
Jesse: (cuts Carrie off) Why can't we just put one of our people onsite for a year?
Robert: We aren't big enough to lose anyone for the purpose of setting up in a company for that long.
Naomi: Obviously it's something we have to consider.
Carrie: (as an internal thought) "They build you up" and act like your work matters before they ignore you. Happens too much here if you ask me. Oh Jesse, they don't care what you say in this meeting, no matter what you suggest "they're gonna tear you down." There's no sense in fighting this hard, people aren't listening to each other. At happy hour "they love you" and during the day when you're competition "they hate you if you wear a crown." This meeting is not worth anything. We were all supposed to figure out our pieces and then make a decision. It's been forty-five minutes and they keep talking in circles. I mean "it's not that I don't love to solve a mystery but life is hard enough with one identity" and this much work drama. Constant.
Jesse starts waving hands in front of Carrie's face.
Jesse: Jefferson! Are you listening? What would you suggest here?
Carrie: (to the group) Well "if silence is the voice" of the customer and we're looking for "a new generation" of clients then we need to focus on what it is about their requests that make or break this deal. This will inform the entire business.
Robert: Well look at that. That's the best idea we've had all afternoon.
Carrie: (to the group) Glad "I could live up to all of your expectations."
Naomi: Okay, so let's come up with how we're going to measure value.
Carrie: (as an internal thought) I only stated what this meeting was supposed to be about originally. Our managers need to "hammer down hard." They're not getting what they're paying for. If this was my company I'd make sure we didn't waste time talking about the same thing every thirty minutes. Who put this on the calendar for an hour and half. I wish I could be like "Iron Fist" and "then disappear like I don't exist."
